Meet the Teacher

I am linking up with the fantastic Stephanie Stewart of Falling Into First today for her Meet the Teacher Blogger Linky Party! I have really enjoyed getting to know some of the other teacher bloggers that have linked up and was excited to join in the fun!

I am Beth Frueh (pronounced FREE), a 30-something elementary teacher from the great state of Ohio! I just finished my first DECADE of teaching!!! I have taught as both an intervention specialist and a general classroom teacher spanning grades 2-8. I am just starting a new adventure as a Teacher on Special Assignment this year. I will be be working as a full-time Resident Educator Mentor for teachers grades pre-K through 6 that are in their first four years of teaching. I am nervous about not having a classroom to call my "own"… but I am BEYOND excited to be working with my 50 (yes FIFTY!!!) new teachers!!!

I've been married to this AWESOME man for a little over 2 years. We have actually known each other since high school, but he waited until I was 30 to actually ask me out. Haha!!  His best friend is married to my friend from grade school. Our moms are best friends. And now we are the best of friends. Life. Is. Awesome. :)
This is Marshall, fur baby #1.
We rescued him last summer. He is the best!!!
He loves going for long walks, car rides to Yellow Springs,
and playing with his stuffed monkey.
And cuddling. He loves cuddling.

This is Millie, fur baby #2.
We just rescued her about a month ago from a local shelter.
I never thought I would love a cat as much as I love her!!
She is so snuggly and spunky and perfect.
And she LOVES that little hedgehog toy.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS…

Long road trips by myself. Vintage cameras and books.
Photography. Listening to records. Target. Yellow Springs.
Waterfalls. Hiking in the snow. Winter. Selfies.
Reading. Netflix. Nature journaling. Chocolate covered pretzels.

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?
Photojournalist for National Geographic!!!

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.
Creative. Passionate. Genuine.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"
"More standardized tests, please!" said no teacher ever!!

Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?
My dad. He died when I was one month old,
so all I have is other people's memories of him.
But he's the only one invited to the party.
And we are going to disappear into the woods together with old film cameras.

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
Time travel.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?
"Think of all the beauty still left
around you and be happy."
(Anne Frank)

Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Total Eclipse of the Heart

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?
Night Owl!!!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?
I really love  my 40 Classroom Reward Coupons.

I am a firm believer that classroom rewards don't need to cost you money! Rewarding students with privileges that make them feel special helps increase intrinsic motivation, which makes your classroom run much more smoothly. My students helped me brainstorm these reward coupon ideas, so they are definitely kid-approved!  I incorporated these coupons to work with Class Dojo points that my kids earned.

Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!
I was born during an earthquake!!!

Alrighty, now I want to know more about YOU!!!

Join in the fun at Falling Into First!!

    1. Thank you! We have a high turnover rate because it is a difficult district (high poverty) to work in, so a lot of people leave. We are hoping that with a strong mentoring program, people will feel welcomed and supported so they will stay longer. :)

  2. Hello, Beth! I got here from the Meet the Teacher Blogger linky. Your Teacher Binder product seems great! Born during an earthquake seems like a crazy story. ;-) - Lisa from Created for Learning

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I find the binder really helpful, so I wanted to put it out there for others to try. :) Yeah, my mom was getting prepped for a C-section, but the earthquake sped up the delivery process so she didn't end up needing one. Haha!!

  3. Hi Beth!
Wow...photojournalist for national geographic huh? That sounds like a fun job. I am picturing what Ben Stiller did on that movie ... I can't remember the name now. Also, I'm starting to notice a trend on the night owl response to a lot of teacher bloggers out there. LOL
